Did you know the following story ?
The present type of magnetic encoders with MR Sensors (magneto-resistive sensors) started to be made in the USA in early 1980s. The sales subsidiary of Japanese manufacturer, Hitachi Metals America, promoted the sales of magnetic encoder parts, MR sensor and magnetic pulsers (rotors), and replaced Hall effect sensors with MR sensors.
In those days, the US encoder makers like Electrokinesis (Admotec later), Lake Shore (Danaher/Dynapar later)started to make MR encoders with Hitachi made parts. Avtron started to make this kind of magnetic enocders with America made MR sensors first but changed the source to German suppliers later.
The manager of this MOC_Mitaka website was the first person who started the promotion of Magnetic Encoder parts in the USA in 1984 as soon as Hitachi developed the encoder parts. He is still continuing the effort of promotion as he does not think the share of magnetic encoder is large enough compared with optical ones.
